BYD e-platform 3.0 Technical Analysis & Ocean-X
2/ e-platform 3.0 enables a range of up to 1,000km, 0-100km/h acceleration of 2.9s, 150km of range added in 5 minutes of charging (using 800V architecture), and a 20% increase in cold weather range (initially only a 10% increase when BYD first announced the platform). $BYDDY pic.twitter.com/iy0bj1aJ6b
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 20214/ The platform has the world’s first 8-in-1 electric powertrain, and BYD makes each component in-house. The integrated components include the motor, motor controller, reducer, on-board charger, DC converter, high-voltage distribution box, vehicle controller, and BMS. pic.twitter.com/9zVHnIWgqg
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 20216/ e-platform 3.0 also uses BYD’s new high-efficiency heat pump that functions under even the most extreme temperatures (-30°C to 60°C). The integrated heat pump is key to the cold weather range improvement of 20%, and should eliminate the winter "range anxiety" some have. pic.twitter.com/UmDwOQzxyk
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 20218/ The most interesting part re: e-platform 3.0 is its focus on high-level intelligent driving. BYD introduced its smart domain control architecture, which integrates 4 domain controllers: intelligent power, intelligent vehicle control, intelligent cockpit, & intelligent driving. pic.twitter.com/uzsW2yByC6
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 202110/ With its 4 domain controllers, BYD has increased vehicle response efficiency by 50%. BYD also increased compute power by 30% with its CPU integration. BYD is the 1st Chinese automaker to mass-produce domain controllers–a key milestone for electrical/electronic architectures. pic.twitter.com/Zwx8SlaMeV
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 202112/ BYD OS is really the first solution that can be standardized across several OEMs/vehicle brands to enable intelligent vehicle communication (V2V/V2X). pic.twitter.com/Ul7oS2zI7J
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 202114/ After the technical announcements, BYD unveiled its latest concept car, the “ocean-x”, which adopts similar marine aesthetics to Dolphin. A midsize sedan based on this concept is expected to be released next year, and will also use e-platform 3.0. pic.twitter.com/JOYHG2pT9M
— Bridget McCarthy (@bridgemccarthy_) September 9, 2021Follow @snowbullcapital Follow @bridgemccarthy_16/ This was a highly technical presentation aimed at potential OEM partners. No one is doing all of this because no company is even close to as vertically integrated as BYD. While this is great for BYD, it's even better for other OEMs to more easily electrify their fleets.
